It’s the little things
It doesn't take much to make me happy – really! Alex stopped by this afternoon with the news that we're going to the BH this Saturday afternoon (then the next trip will be to bring Nathan Genya to the apartment next week). He also brought a pillow for Nathan once he's here and he also brought me a new skillet! Teflon is perfect, it has a lid that fits and is just the perfect size. Talk about a load full of wishes fulfilled! Here I am cooking dinner with the new skillet –

You...ketchup???? You used it the other day too, right! Is it different in Russia? LOL Evan HATES it!
Hi Debbie and Brian - It's Sue Marshall, and I have been lurking on this site since you left Husty. I wanted to congratulate you two (and JJ) on the adoption finally being final! (Sorry the wishes are late, though.) We're very happy for you, and we're also anxious to meet Nathan. If you know of any good Russian/English translation web sites where Sam and some of the other kids could learn a few words in Russian, I would appreciate knowing about them. I found a few, but they were giving different translations for the same words! I enjoy reading about the city you're staying in and your adventures. It sounds very interesting. We'll keep you in our prayers that everything continues to move along smoothly and quickly. Take care.
Ketchup here is much sweeter - as are all tomoto products...
As for the skillet = I know the feeling after the last two trips (total 8 weeks) and 2 weeks into this trip, I got REALLY, REALLY, excited when Irina took us to the big grocery store (Bce Byet Ok) and before my eyes was the most beautiful sight! A big enamel dutch oven! The apt. has two TINY ones - and I mean tiny - so small that making soups or stews, or even just heating pasta sauce with meatballs required using both! It was one of my best purchases! Like $13 and SO worth it! I wish I could bring it home, but weight wise, ain't worth it, plus, I don't NEED it, just figured it was a funny souvenier. Oh well.
Ya know, I'm thinking...I have several things like that - which I've purchased, including TWO measuring cups - one cup and two cup - with both metric & US measurements, the dutch oven, a small (hotel room sized) 4-cup coffee pot, etc. that I'll have no need for back home and would LOVE to leave them. Maybe we need to put them all in a suitcase (I have a extra one actually) and pass them forward. Maybe Irina or Alex could agree to hold on to the suitcase. Actually, maybe it can be kept in Alex's apt. since most families will likely stay there. I know the Burns family won't, but Irina can just grab it from ALex if she has family coming...what do you think?
Good idea, Judy - we'll have to plan it out. We have a few things to leave for future families also!
Sue M - I have the same problem - my two different translation books show to say the same word different ways! So probably I'll just put a list together of the way WE will say the words and then post that and pass it on. I'm trying to do some of the words with a sign also so he can associate it better... Debbie
