I'm glad you got to Baikal. It truly is magnificent. We went twice already, and had hoped to go again this trip, but since Mike has left, we'll wait til we return here in two years. Both times we took the 10 hour train tour. We've been in August & December and both were just incredible. I have so many beautiful pictures and memories of our times there!
Baikal is amazing. We went on our first trip. I can't say that I remember the seals, but I do remember a little museum of sorts that had fish and skeletons/fossils and such. We also had lunch at a "ritzier" place. Darren still talks about the Omul (I don't remember how to spell it) and potato dish he had there.
Isn't it stunningly beautiful there? Marty took some amazing pics when we were there in 2004. Everyone who goes to Irk needs to go to Baikal!
ANd Lisa, I know EXACTLY what restaurant you are talking about! I think that is where 'they take the new adoption parents' on the first trip - I know the Omul thing you are talking about too - Marty got that.
How funny! Darren teases me about that Omul dish all the time. When we traveled in '05 I was a full blown vegetarian, so I got blini with pine nuts and banana (if I remember correctly) I wasn't all that impressed with my meal. But since I've started eating fish so I can't wait to go back and try this dish my husband has been talking about for the last 4 years. LOL!!!
